Software update

I went nuts with RSS. Pages that now have RSS feeds:

  • The news page.

  • The forums.

  • The downloads page.

  • Every thread.

  • The activity tracker.

  • Each user's profile (for tracking that user's activity).

Also, you all can now edit your own posts. Note that I have to explicitly grant you rights to do this, but I gave such rights to everyone on the user list.

Oh, and lots of little bugs have been fixed.

I have just subscribed to what must be half the site... I am super connected now.

Gah! No, don't do that! Just subscribe to the activity tracker and be done with it. Your browser will attempt to refresh every RSS feed every hour or so, so it's kind of wasteful to subscribe to everything.

Although, I see Opera actually shows you the content of the feeds. The activity tracker feed only gives titles, whereas other feeds actually include post text and such. So, there is some use to subscribing to them that way, I guess. After all, if you read them through Opera and never actually come to the site, you're actually saving bandwidth.

Note: Apparently all logged-in users other than burn and me have been seeing a big old error page here ever since the upgrade last night because of a bug in my code that relates to permission checks for non-admins. Hopefully fixed now. Sorry about that.

Ahh, I was curious about the errors but was too busy to pester about what I figured was already known. Messing around with the RSS now, nice stuff.
