New Year's Eve LAN
Posted by Temporal at 2006/12/04 23:40:40 CST

A decade ago, I had my first New Year's Eve LAN party.

This year I have my 11th.

Same time, same place.

Post below if you'll be there.

I'm living in Minneapolis again, so I'm hoping to come. I'll have to check with the wife first.

I'll be there.

What games do I need to buy? I havn't played an action game in almost a year so I have no clue whats good.

Do I need to bring 2 systems or only 1?

P.S. Dont lose your steam account login (*cough* Temporal)

The dorks I LAN with in CA only play UT2k4 and a WC3 map called "Defense of the Ancients". So, I'm not caught up on games either. Of course, there are always plenty of safe classics to choose from... And, yes, I'll be sure to have my steam account working.

Also, there will be Wii.

People coming: Kenton, Lester, Jesse, Peter, Jim, Mike, maybe Chris, maybe Tim

Some games I will have for consideration:
- Battlefield 2
- Quake 4
- Prey
- FEAR
- Rainbow Six: Vegas

I haven't played any of these so I don't know what's good.

I will have Rainbow 6: Vegas and the new Splinter Cell. The new rainbow 6 is supposed to be good, and has co-op which is always handy for lan games. Other ideas are Hidden:Source (Played a ton of that last year). Im probably not going to get around to playing any of those games this week. Medieval total war 2 is too addicting. Might be a good lan game however....

There will also be console games:

Wii:
- Wii Sports
- Super Monkey Ball
- Rayman Raving Rabbids
- Excite Truck (2 player)

We have a full set of 4 wiimotes and 4 nunchucks.

X-Box 360:
- Gears of War
- Far Cry Instincts Predator

We have two X-Box 360s (mine and my sister's) and 4 controllers so we can LAN them for 4 players across two screens. If people happen to have controllers of their own, we might be able to get up to 4 players per screen. I haven't tried it yet so I'm not sure how this works.

PS3: This system sucks and we do not have or want one.

apparently my love of work is supplanting my love of hanging out with friends... it is becoming apparent that I will be working on New Years despite assurance that I would have it off… damn you bowl season!!

Guh. Rainbow Six: Vegas won't run on my laptop. Requires pixel shader 3.0. Arrggh. I guess cancel that one... at least my home machine will be able to run it.

I'd be there if I wasn't out of town. The PS 3.0 requirement irks me as well. Have fun.

Both my boxen have cards that do pixel shader 3.0. I will see if my Athlon XP 2200 can do Rainbow 6 or Splinter Cell. Unless someone can get their hands on an extra Athlon XP 3000+ cpu, then I could just upgrade the CPU and all will be good. No one in town has one in stock.

Did anyone end up getting Battlefield 2142? I played the demo and thought it was ok, but the in-game ads forced me to cancel my preorder.

My mom happens to have a GeForce 7300 in her machine, so that would make three capable video cards. Maybe that would be good enough to play some coop sometime when not everyone is gaming.
