At Google we try to get all of our information from our own services, aka "eating our own dogfood", because this way it helps us understand the problems our users face and forces us to improve. But, people who were trying to get from our US offices to our European offices were having trouble since Google Maps couldn't tell them how to get there. Of course, being internet nerds, we were able to get along pretty well just communicating via IM and e-mail, but there is something to be said for meeting people face-to-face. So, we fixed it. I understand that Larry and Sergey are swimming across the ocean right now, on their way to their first visit to the Dublin office.
